Journalists Jessica Soho and Korina Sanchez-Roxas meet at the papal conclave coverage in Vatican.
Veteran journalists Jessica Soho and Korina Sanchez-Roxas, hailing from two different television networks, met at the Vatican for their respective coverage of the papal conclave on Wednesday, May 7.
A Facebook post by ‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” (KMJS) showed the two seasoned journalists setting aside their rivalry to share a photo for this momentous event in the Catholic faith when the cardinals voted for their next leader following the death of Pope Francis on April 21.
“KMJS” is Soho’s eponymous magazine show on GMA, while Sanchez is the host and producer of the rival “Rated Korina” (previously, “Rated K” on ABS-CBN) which is now being streamed on various platforms and television channels.
“PBB [Pinoy Big Brother] Collab next edition na ba itu? HANDA NA BA KAYO?! I-KMJS NA ‘YAN!” the KMJS post read.
On her Instagram page, Sanchez captioned the encounter as “[r]ain and sun meet as friends at the Vatican. Just as K meets GMA7’s icon, Jessica Soho.”
The photo earned positive reactions from many netizens, who described them as “well-respected credible journalists.”
“This proves how journalists, regardless of the competing networks they represent, can unite in the pursuit of truth and accuracy,” a netizen commented.
The election for the new pope began on Wednesday. The process is set to conclude after a white smoke comes, signifying that the Catholic Church has a new pope.
One hundred thirty-three cardinals around the world are eligible for the papal race, including Filipino cardinals Luis Antonio Tagle, Pablo Virgilio David and Jose Advincula. cb/ra/edv
