Nadine Lustre urged her followers not to be swayed by flowery words, flashy campaign ads, and the show-off characteristics when it comes to choosing the right candidates ahead of the 2025 midterm elections.
Lustre, who had gotten the moniker “President Nadine” for her thought-provoking views about government, penned a lengthy reminder to her followers on her Instagram page on Saturday, May 10, while reminding them how one vote can be a force that drives the country’s future forward.
“This is my plea to everyone. I hope you don’t take this the wrong way. Let us decide which candidates to vote for carefully. Let us not be swayed by flashy words, extravagant campaign ads, or when candidates show off. It’s sad when someone less fortunate is being taken advantage of. A vote shouldn’t be bought. With every peso given, a future is being given up. It’s unfair,” she said.
The actress also reminded her followers to be mindful of a candidate’s track record and their willingness to change the country for the better.
“This is why we need to be mindful of a candidate’s track record. We must know who has a heart for service, and those who are simply campaigning. Because to be honest, we don’t need a leader who is good at public speaking — we need a leader who knows how to listen and who truly cares for everyone. We may have different beliefs and chosen candidates — it’s normal. Despite this, let us not forget that we’re part of one nation. We’re shaping our future,” she further said.
Reiterating the importance of casting a vote, Lustre said one of the reasons why the state of the Philippines “remains unchanged” is that the “same path has always been chosen” even though many are aware that the country “deserves better.”
With this in mind, Lustre said she is hopeful that her fellow countrymen will live with “dignity, the right opportunities,” and with a voice to speak up.
“One day, the Philippines is for everyone — not only for those who are rich, but also for those who are rallying for change quietly. Let us start with one vote, in a decision that’s honest, with eyes open and a pure heart. This is for our future. This is for our country. This is for all of us. If a brighter future comes, this won’t happen by luck. This is because we chose to fight for a better tomorrow,” she said. /edv
