Screen veteran King Gutierrez is doing better after being hospitalized following a seizure, according to his daughter Pepper.
King’s health battle was revealed by Pepper in a Facebook reel last June 6, saying the actor “almost didn’t make it” after his “system shut down” due to his condition.
“Out of all your admissions in the hospital, this time you almost didn’t make it… the other night, you had seizure, your system shut down [and] blackened already from difficulty [in] breathing,” she said while appealing for prayers.
She also thanked her “ninong” (godfather), actor-turned-politician Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. for always being the “first” person whom their family can rely on.
A day later, Pepper said the character actor is in a better condition, although there are some medical tests that need to be done.
“Thank you to the millions whose prayers are with my Papa Hernando Gutierrez. He is in a good state now, though there are still some medical tasks & tests to be done. Grateful that he can smile & speak already. I love you, Pa,” she said.
In a previous post, Pepper shared that King was previously hospitalized for cardiac arrest, although the actor was able to “calmly” ask his family to bring him to the hospital.
“Before, you [could] still calmly utter the words, ‘dalhin niyo ko sa ospital (bring me to the hospital)’ because you knew you were having a cardiac arrest already,” she said.
INQUIRER.net has reached out to Pepper for further updates about King but has yet to respond, as of this writing.
Born Hernando Gutierrez, King is known for his villainy roles, and appearances in the action films “Leon Cordero: Duwag Lang ang Hahalik sa Lupa,” “APO: Kingpin ng Maynila,” “Palaban,” “Ben Delubyo,” “Iskalawag: Ang Batas Ay Batas,” and “Totoy Ng Bangkusay,” to name a few.
He joined the Philippine Army Reserve Command sometime in the 1990s and entered politics in 2013. Prior to winning as Bacoor City councilor, he had already served at the Videogram Regulatory Board and the Senate’s Department of Political Affairs.
King is the elder brother of the late sports columnist Nap Gutierrez. /edv
