MANILA, Philippines — The cortege of National Artist and Superstar Nora Aunor is now on its way to the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig, where she will be laid to rest with full military honors as part of a state funeral.
This follows a necrological service sponsored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Tuesday morning at the Metropolitan Theater (MET) in Manila, where family, colleagues, and fans gathered to pay tribute to the acclaimed actress and singer.
Afterwards, Aunor’s flag-draped casket was placed on a stage adorned with funeral wreaths and flanked by honor guards. A large black-and-white portrait of Aunor was displayed behind it.
The funeral procession departed the MET at 11 a.m. Several fans lined up the streets where her cortege was expected to pass by.
The actress died of acute respiratory failure on April 16 following a medical procedure at a hospital in Pasig. She would have been 72 years old on May 21.
As member of the Order of National Artists, Aunor is accorded full honors and state funeral rites.
