Justin Bieber drew flak after he bared a previous spat with wife, model Hailey Bieber in which he appeared to have “belittled” her ability to land a cover on a fashion magazine.
In a now-edited Instagram caption, Justin shared that he once told Hailey she would “never be on the cover of Vogue” after she recently landed the latest cover of the magazine.
“Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight. I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. Yikes I know, so mean,” he originally wrote, before changing the caption to a series of random emojis.
The “Baby” singer explained that he felt “so disrespected” during the fight that he thought he had to “get even” with his wife.
“I think as we mature we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even. We’re honestly just prolonging what we really want, which is intimacy and connection,” he continued.
Justin remarked that he was “sadly mistaken” about Hailey’s abilities, writing, “So baby you already know but forgive me for saying you wouldn’t get a Vogue cover because clearly I was sadly mistaken.”

The musician’s post drew mixed reactions after netizens pointed out that it conveyed a “narcissistic” and “insensitive” tone.
“All Justin Bieber had to say was congrats. But no, he goes straight to I never believed you could,” said one X user.
“Is there a bigger narcissist than Justin Bieber??? Every single Hailey moment he makes it about himself, undermines and turns it into drama,” pitched in another netizen.

After the post went viral, Justin’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, who is now engaged to Benny Blanco, shared a cryptic quote about recognizing one’s worth.
“You know who you are and I’m cheering you on,” the actress-singer wrote on her Instagram story.

Netizens speculated that Gomez was addressing her post to Hailey. The former has previously opened up about experiencing emotional abuse in her past relationship with Justin during an interview on National Public Radio in January 2020.
Meanwhile, Hailey and Justin tied the knot in August 2018. After six years of marriage, they welcomed their first child, Jack Blues.
